Welcome to our service learning page! For a definition of service learning, please click the above icon. I am interested to determine your needs, interests, and choices of activities for a service learning topic for our Art class to participate in. Please take the following survey. When you click the image below, a new window will pop up for Survey Monkey.
Question 1 is shown as a screenshot. All other question images have been cropped in Photoshop.
Analysis of Survey Results
According to the results obtained in the survey, nearly 73% of the participants indicated a preference for local service learning projects in comparison to global service learning projects. Of note, however, are the results of a later question asking about projects of primary interest. In that question, more participants chose Sole Hope (a global project) over two other local projects. Participants displayed equal interest in solely helping people in their community compared to both recycling and also helping people in their community. When asked if they would recommend service learning to a friend or colleague, the results were roughly split between detractors (27%), passives (38%), and promoters (36%). Finally, when those surveyed were asked about how they felt about participating in a service learning activity, six described themselves as excited, four described themselves as indifferent, and one felt pressured.
Service Learning Project
Sole Hope is an organization that provides shoes for children in Uganda in order to prevent jiggers. Jiggers are the world’s smallest known flea. The flea burrows inside children’s feet and lay eggs causing an extremely painful condition that can be debilitating. If you would like to make a donation to this cause, you can click on the Sole Hope logo above and be directed to their donation center. If you are interesting in setting up collections at your workplace or church, you can click on the Sole Hope link below. It will provide a printable Word document for your convenience. If you are not located in the vicinity Fort Campbell, please refer to the Sole Hope website above to set up collections in your area.
My third grade art students are working to trace and cut out shoe patterns on the jeans they have been collecting. If you decide to give monetary donations, please be aware that those type of gifts are not associated with the school on post that I work for. Our school is only participating in cutting shoe patterns and collecting supplies to mail to Sole Hope. Thank you for your support!
